Start Your Year, Start Your Day

19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.

20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare.

21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.

24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.

Philippians 2:19-24 (NIV)

The state of our economy has made it very evident that you don’t always get a good return on your financial investments.

However, as this passage shows, you always get a return on your spiritual investment in the lives of others. The sense of pride that Paul felt for Timothy leaps off the page and you can almost see his face beaming as he writes about his young protégé. We often think of Timothy as one of the superheroes of the Bible, but I wonder what his life would have been like without Paul’s mentoring relationship.

Often we come to the conclusion that we in order to be a world-changer we have to have a platform that puts us in front of the masses. Unfortunately we aren’t all Bono or Oprah. The exciting message of this passage is that we really just need to make a difference in the life of one other person to truly make a difference in the world. Who has God placed around you that you could begin to pour your life into? It doesn’t require a degree in theology or even a structured discipleship curriculum. Just begin sharing your story with that person and look for the opportunities to talk about what God has taught you. You’ll be amazed what happens and you too may speak of your “Timothy” with the same pride some day!

A Thankful Thought

I have so much to be thankful for that I'm not sure I can just pick one. When I wake up in the morning I am thankful for His safe keeping through the night. Thankful he has given me another day with my family and has given me health and strength to work and serve. Thankful for another opportunity to show and to share the love of God with someone.
